Jefferson City could lose cross country championships

An event that has been a mainstay in Jefferson City for 35 years may find a new home.

For the first time in the event’s history, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) is accepting requests for proposal (RFP) for the right to host the state cross country meet. The meet has been hosted at the Oak Hills Golf Center since 1976.

However, just because the meet is being bid out, that does not mean that Jefferson City is going to let it go without a fight.

Please let this thing go elsewhere. We have people blocking and hitting our mailbox, blocking the driveway, parking in the yard and can't get down my own street from 7 AM to 6 PM.

I hate that time of year.

Post 'No Parking' on your property. Have 'em towed if they don't comply.

I'm sure adequate parking will be high on the list of priorities for the MSHSAA to consider. The lack of parking for this event is atrocious at best.

Parking is getting better than it used to, many places like Knights and the High School and Elks are using shuttles. Parking will never be perfect anywhere for 8000 people. Festus sorry for your troubles, its one day a year. Why dont you charge people to park like many do, go out and prevent what happens and make some money on top of it . MSHSAA does not have any complaints with Oak Hills, they are just following a new procedure on Venue bids. They most likely will develop an admission gate next year. Lets face it , I'm sure it causes parking and traffic issues for many in town and makes them mad, but it brings in 800 full ,rooms in town hotel wise, 8000 x 3-4 meals each for each person This stale economy in town can't afford to lose this event . Sorry Festus looks like it wil lbe here still . I do not like it when downtown is closed off in the summer for various things, but hey it's for a good cause

Let this event go somewhere else before a pedestrian gets killed. Who cares? Let them leave. JC doesn't have the facilities for this event. The streets are clogged, no parking anywhere, people walking in the streets, etc.

yea, lets kick everyone out of JC. lets make it so there is nothing to offer to anyone. parking has always been a problem in any city. especially during this event, JCHS homecoming, Lincoln Homecoming etc. lets make it so no one want to come here, is this what JC really wants?

Maybe if they held it out at Binder Lake/Park it would be better. They have all those ballfields that could be used for parking- and just run shuttles back and forth.

that could work, depeding if the powers that be can figure it out.
