Assessor appointed to Missouri Tax Commission

Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed the longtime assessor of one of Missouri's biggest counties to the State Tax Commission.

Randy B. Holman was first elected assessor of Jefferson County in 1994. His current term expires at the end of this year, but he resigned early to accept the tax commission appointment announced Wednesday.

The State Tax Commission supervises assessment and equalization practices and evaluates the quality of assessments by all Missouri counties. The board also conducts hearings for individual cases from local Boards of Equalization.

Holman, a Democrat, has served as president of the Missouri State Assessors Association and as president of the Festus R-6 Board of Education.

His term on the State Tax Commission ends in January 2014.
