ST. LOUIS (AP) - A one-time Missouri state Senate candidate and his campaign treasurer have been fined $322,000 for finance violations two years ago.
Former Missouri House member Rodney Hubbard narrowly lost a Democratic primary for a state Senate seat from the St. Louis area in 2008.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday the Missouri Ethics Commission levied the fine against Hubbard, his campaign and the campaign's treasurer.
The commission concluded Hubbard did not properly report $129,000 in campaign spending and $86,000 in contributions. The commission also says the campaign did not properly report payments to a political consultant.
The three parties can settle the matter by paying 10 percent of the total fine - about $32,000 - within 90 days. But the commission will pursue the balance if they have other violations in the next two years.
