The Civil War impacted Cole County, as most of Missouri, in a unique way.

To commemorate that period in the area’s history, the Cole County Historical Society has chosen two distinguished generals from that era to be the subject of the annual Christmas ornament.

Ornaments will be available after Tuesday at the society museum, 109 Madison St.; Kas-A-Designs, 308 W. Dunklin St.; Merle Norman, 316 Jefferson St.; Midwest Travel, 207 E. High St.; Samuel’s Tuxedo and Gifts, 236 E. High St.; Southbank Gift Co., 110 E. High St.; and Super Hair, 3702 W. Truman Blvd.

Proceeds from the ornament project support the society’s museum and preservation efforts.

Local artist and historian Sabra Eagan researched the generals and discovered a love story.
