Blunt outspent Carnahan in Missouri Senate race

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Republican Roy Blunt outspent Democrat Robin Carnahan while winning Missouri's U.S. Senate campaign.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday that Blunt spent $11.5 million while Carnahan spent $10.2 million. Blunt reported owing $431,000 for media costs and consulting and that he had $156,000 on hand. Carnahan owes $81,000 and reported having $80,900 on hand.

The numbers come from federal campaign finance reports covering the period from Oct. 14 to Nov. 22. Both candidates reported raising just under $640,000 during that span, but Blunt outspent Carnahan by more than 2-to-1.

A spokesman for Blunt says the newly elected senator plans to pay off the campaign's bill during the first several months of 2011.
