Man pushing disabled car struck, killed

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police continue to investigate after a man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while pushing a disabled car on a bridge.

The accident happened about 5 a.m. Wednesday on the Chain of Rocks Bridge. The name of the victim has not been released.

Police say the man was pushing his stalled car when the tractor-trailer was unable to avoid him, but swerved and struck a median before catching fire. The driver of the tractor-trailer refused medical treatment.

The accident closed Interstate 270 for several hours at the bridge, which carries traffic over the Mississippi River between Missouri and Illinois.
