Repair work begins on Cape Girardeau floodwall

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Work has begun to help shore up Cape Girardeau's aging floodwall.

A sagging 8-foot section of the wall that protects the town from the Mississippi River has been removed as part of an $8 million project. The Army Corps of Engineers says the section should be replaced within the next two to three weeks.

It's part of a yearlong project to renovate the flood-protection system in Cape Girardeau. Other work will include replacement of drains and the addition of more rock to prevent erosion.
