Sheriff: Man who shot Mont. trooper killed self

HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say the gunman who shot and killed a Montana trooper last week later died after shooting himself.

Gallatin County Sheriff James Cashell says Errol Brent Bouldin shot Trooper David DeLaittre in the head and torso with a shotgun Wednesday outside the small southwestern Montana town of Three Forks. Cashell says DeLaittre was able to return fire before he died, wounding the 56-year-old dog trainer.

Broadwater County Sheriff Brenda Ludwig says Bouldin drove to the Crow Creek Valley outside Townsend. She said Monday that preliminary autopsy results show Bouldin then shot himself with a .22 pistol.

Funeral services for the 23-year-old trooper are scheduled for Tuesday in Three Forks.
