JCHS takes first at speech-debate tournament

First place at “War of the Words” went to the Jefferson City High School speech and debate team.
Mexico High School hosted 16 schools at its annual tournament Saturday.
The Jefferson City High School team overall yielded the greatest number of debate wins, the largest number of final round places in individual events, and the best total team performance.
Five students qualified for new National Forensic League degrees and the team remains the No. 1 rank in the East Missouri NFL District for number of new degrees at 210 for the 2010-11 season.
