80-year-old man to graduate from SEMO this month

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - An 80-year-old Missouri man is ready for graduate school after finishing his bachelor's degree.

Charles Vandegriffe of O'Fallon completed his coursework online and will graduate this month with an undergraduate degree in general studies from Southeast Missouri State University.

He says in a news release that earning the degree gave him the opportunity to learn and exercise his brain.

The university says Vandegriffe had long dreamed of going back to school and earning a second degree. He also holds an associate degree from Saint Louis University in business administration.

Next, Vandegriffe wants to pursue a master's degree in religion, focusing on Bible studies. He hasn't decided where he will continue his education.
