She may have lost at the polls last month, but State Auditor Susan Montee won her most recent election — by acclamation. Montee was elected Saturday to chair the Missouri Democratic Party.
As in other states last month, a number of Missouri Democrats took an electoral beating at the hands of Republican challengers — especially in outstate areas, including U.S Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Lexington, and state Sens. Frank Barnitz, D-Lake Spring, and Wes Shoemyer, D-Clarence. Still, she said, for the most part, Democrats were not beaten by a swelling of GOP votes. In some cases, voters who often support Democrats stayed home, while Republicans effectively got their voters to the polls.
