Montee picked to head Missouri democrats

State party needs to send positive message, auditor says

She may have lost at the polls last month, but State Auditor Susan Montee won her most recent election - by acclamation. Montee was elected Saturday to chair the Missouri Democratic Party.

As in other states last month, a number of Missouri Democrats took an electoral beating at the hands of Republican challengers - especially in outstate areas, including U.S Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Lexington, and state Sens. Frank Barnitz, D-Lake Spring, and Wes Shoemyer, D-Clarence. Still, she said, for the most part, Democrats were not beaten by a swelling of GOP votes. In some cases, voters who often support Democrats stayed home, while Republicans effectively got their voters to the polls.
