Candidate seeks recount in Mississippi County

CHARLESTON, Mo. (AP) - The losing candidate for Mississippi County presiding county commissioner has asked for a recount.

Jack Feezor, a Democrat, lost the election Nov. 2 to Republican Carlin Bennett by seven votes.

According to state statutes, a candidate can request a recount if they are within 1 percent of their opponent.

County Clerk Junior DeLay said 3,517 ballots were cast for that election. He said the petition for a recount has been filed with the circuit court, and that Feezor is seeking a hand recount.

The Sikeston Standard Democrat reported Friday that if a judge orders a recount, election officials will have 20 days to complete it.
