Helias takes on Marshfield today for title

The Helias Crusaders got off to a hot start against Rolla on Friday in the semifinals of the Buffalo Tournament before posting a 61-49 win to advance to today's championship game. Dylan Gish poured in 14 points for the Crusaders, who raced out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and held a 31-17 advantage at the half.

Zach Rockers added 11 points for the winners.

Helias (2-0) will take on Marshfield at 7 p.m. today for the title.

St. Elizabeth 51,

Versailles 41

EUGENE - Ryan Loethen poured in a game-high 21 points Friday night to lead the St. Elizabeth Hornets to a 54-41 win over Versailles in the fifth-place game of the Eugene Invitational.

The Hornets (2-1) led 37-34 after three quarters and exploded in the fourth by outscoring the Tigers 17-7 to secure the win.

Caleb Heckemeyer totaled 13 points for the winners, while Austin Heckemeyer added 10. Steven Vinyard led Versailles with 15. St. Elizabeth is back in action Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Stoutland.

Girls Basketball

California takes third

EUGENE - The California Lady Pintos wrapped up the Eugene Invitational on Friday with a 70-41 win over Russellville to take third place. Ellee Miller led the Lady Pintos with 22, while Beth Crow added 18. California opened up a 20-9 lead after one quarter and led 43-14 at the half. Amber Duncan and Kennedy Volkart scored 12 points apiece for Russellville. In the fifth-place game, Brittany Bexten scored 21 points to lead Linn to a 59-39 win over Versailles. The Lady Wildcats held a 40-20 lead at the half. Chelsea Marriott led the Lady Tigers with 23.

Blair Oaks JV wins

EUGENE - The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons JV team improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a 45-12 win over California. Sara Jones led Blair Oaks with 13, while teammate Darian Werdehausen chipped in with 12.

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons eighth-grade team cruised to a 40-10 win over Versailles on Friday to improve to 8-1. Jolie Duffner led the winners with 13. Lauren Viessman totaled 10. In Thursday night's game, the Lady Falcons romped to a 39-18 win over Thomas Jefferson. Viessman led the team with 15, while Duffner added 13. The Lady Falcons home Lewis and Clark on Tuesday.
