Helias loses early lead, falls to Hickman

The Helias Lady Crusaders got off to a hot start Thursday but were unable to hold on against Hickman and fell 47-34 to the Kewpies. The Lady Crusaders raced out to a 15-5 lead and held a 15-10 edge after the first quarter. However, Hickman had a 37-19 scoring edge the rest of the way. The Kewpies cut the lead to 21-17 at halftime and then led 30-25 heading into the final period. Olivia Hackmann had 13 points to lead Helias (0-2). The Lady Crusaders will play Monday at Lebanon.
EUGENE — The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons jumped out to a six-point halftime lead Thursday night and upended the California Lady Pintos 60-50 in the semifinals of the Eugene Tournament. Fourth-seeded Blair Oaks, which led 27-21 at the break, took a 45-34 advantage into the final period.
Jenna Markway paced the winners with 18 points. Amy Dorge added 13, while LeeAnn Polowy totaled 12.
Elle Miller totaled 14 points for topseeded California, while Tylere Goans added 12 and Beth Crow chipped in with 10.
Blair Oaks (2-0) will play either Eugene for the title at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. California (1-1) will face Russellville for third at 8 p.m. today.
Second-seeded Eugene advanced with a 72-60 victory over Russellville in the late game Thursday.
Denise Lepper led the Lady Eagles with 22 points, while Miranda White added 18. Eugene led 36-32 at the half and 47-40 after three quarters.
Amber Duncan and Hannah Campbell had 16 points each for third-seeded Russellville. Kennedy Volkart added 15.
In a loser’s bracket game Thursday, Versailles advanced to today’s fifthplace contest with a 56-39 win over South Callaway.
