Shooting victim honored with charity workout in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - An exercise instructor killed in a 2009 Thanksgiving weekend shooting in Kansas will be honored Saturday at a Columbia charity "boot camp" organized by her workout students.

The STOmP Domestic Violence Boot Camp begins at 9 a.m.at the city recreation center where Karen Kahler was a personal trainer. The 44-year-old Texas transplant and her two teenage daughters died in a Nov.28, 2009 shooting in Burlingame.

Kraig Kahler faces capital murder charges in the deaths of his wife, two daughters and 89-year-old grandmother-in-law. He is the former head of Columbia's city utilities department.

Money raised at the two-hour circuit training fitness event will be donated to a Columbia domestic violence advocacy group that runs a women's shelter. Kahler had sought a protective order against her husband and filed for divorce several months before the shooting.
