JCPS seeks Teacher of the Year nominations

The public is invited to nominate a public school educator for the 2011 Teacher of the Year program.

In addition to the name, a brief note has been added to the selection format this year.

The Jefferson City Public School District began participating in the State Teacher of the Year program in 1991.

Several local teachers have been finalists at the state level. And in 2004, West Elementary School teacher Linda Eisinger was named State Teacher of the Year.

The JCPS Foundation provides the $2,000 Railton Outstanding Teaching Award, and Scholastic Inc. gives the winner a new computer.

A committee of parents and community members chooses six finalists and then interviews them.

The district hopes parents, community members and staff will take time to nominate those they feel are doing exceptional work for the students.

Nominations are due Jan. 7, 2011. Mail to David Luther, Jefferson City Public Schools, 315 E. Dunklin St., Jefferson City, Mo., 65101 or e-mail to [email protected].
