Store robbed twice this month, authorities believe same person responsible

Authorities believe the same suspect who tried to rob the Family Dollar store earlier this month may have tried it again Monday night.

According to police reports, a call of an armed individual at the store came in around 7:35 p.m.

The suspect, a black male wearing a black mask, brown hoody and black jeans, came in the front door and demanded money from the store manager. He was armed with a handgun.

The manager gave him money from the store's safe. While that was going on, a customer in the store called 911.

As the suspect began to go back out the front door, officers arrived on the scene. The man then fled back into the store, with officers giving chase, and eventually ran out the back of the store and got away from officers.

As he ran, the suspect dropped his weapon and the money that he had taken.

No one was hurt, but some of the customers who were inside were extremely shaken up by the situation.

The first robbery occurred Nov. 7, around the same time in the evening and the description of the suspect in that case is similar to the description given of the would-be robber in the Monday night case.

" Lol... thanks mshoneybee. (blush)

I have no tolerance anymore for stupidity. If someone comes into a business I'm in with a gun demanding money or whatnot, all I have to do is " feel in imminent danger for my life" . Of course I wouldn't pull my weapon unless I was able to do so undetected or have the opportunity, unless it was go time and he was shooting anyway.

As I've said before, I hope I NEVER have to pull my weapon in defense of my life, but I'd rather have the choice to make if it ever does happen, and this stuff makes me think the odds are pretty good it will at some point in my life. "

3rd: cops shoot to "stop" (hopefully for good), but with their ammo, if it hits him its going to do more than sting.

ME, i carry everywhere. I was packing AND hd backups with me for my black friday shopping. PEOPLE are STUPID.....period. I have to agree, if im in the store and have a clean shot...somebody is going to catch one "

" In todays world where no law is black and white, where lawyers can say peanuts are poodles and judges believe them. You would have to have a armed robber stick a gun in your face, hammer back , saying "I am going to shoot you" to positivly be able to say that your life is in danger. Just being in a store that is being held up really doesnt qualify. "I think my life was in danger" or "I felt like my life was in danger" , "my life may have been in danger" leaves yorself wide open to criminal charges or a lawsuit. all stores have survillance cams so it will be on film how it happened. "

" misshoneybee: just about every store where I live has a sign on the door "No Weapons Allowed". I figure some probably bring them in anyway - who would know. Only problem is, on Day After Thanksgiving, St. Louis Knuckleheads can get a little crazy. I can just see some idiot shooting up the Wal Mart because they didn't get one of the two big screen TVs on sale for $100.00.

Serioously, WalMart was open all night, but other stores had people camping out all night & last night was the coldest one so far this fall. "

" I just read what you posted, MULEMANN and after some thought, it makes perfect sense. Therefore, I don't want a member of our 'online family' (joytotheworld) to be on the wrong side of the law. Hopefully, JCPD will catch this fool and lock him up or better yet, put a bullet in him while he's in the process of robbing and stealing.

I do have some questions, MULEMANN. Let's just say that joytotheworld is in Family Dollar and this fool comes in waving a gun and demanding cash. You mean joytotheworld can't pump a few rounds in him if his life is in danger? Joy's life would be in danger if the robber has a gun, wouldn't it? "

limerick54 wrote on Nov 26, 2009 11:05 PM:

" That's who I mean. . the cops. . they should shoot to kill. This mamby-pamby garbage of giving the criminal consideration is plain stupid. A bullet is alot cheaper than prosecution and jail time and maybe. . just maybe. . fear will keep those on the edge from breaking the law. After all, our jails have become so cushy that many criminals prefer jail time to home time. How pathetic is that? I still don't understand why we built a pretty new place for criminals. . those old cells on the river were just FINE. "

MULEMANN wrote on Nov 26, 2009 12:48 PM:

" The way I understand it, cc permits do not give you the right to have a shootout unless your life or family members life is in danger. Its still up to Barney and Gomer to apprehend the criminals. Taling the law enforcements job into your own hands could have some severe penaltys. "

limerick54 wrote on Nov 25, 2009 2:08 PM:

" If they do shoot the crook, I hope they shoot to kill. Injured criminals end up becoming elevated to some kind of odd sacrificial status. Dead crimnals end up being lowered into the ground. "

" Hey Joytotheworld--I sure hope you're in Family Dollar the next time Mr. Happy Pants is in there. You might have better luck putting this fool in check then JCPD has lately. And when I read about how you 'took a bite outta crime' in the paper, you will be my hero for 'takin' out the trash'! "

joytotheworld wrote on Nov 25, 2009 9:12 AM:

I don't care if they are "allowed" to carry or not. It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 IMO. "

" I'd rather the customer have a handgun and a ccw permit than a cell phone. Too bad this guy didn't get a bloody face plant into the floor. As I understand it the police were on scene almost immediately and the first officer there gave chase as the robber bolted out of the back door. I believe that the popo's did the best that they could...even brought in a dog. One can only guess that he had a getaway car waiting near by. Hopefully he left fingerprints/dna behind on the gun.

BTW, Barney did deputize Gomer on occasion. Hopefully, lacking his gun and his pride, this robber will move elsewhere. "

The reason being many times you use zip code 65101 in a search it comes up Cedar City, Mo 65101. It also could be that was the original zip code before the flood of 1993 for Cedar City "

cinnamon wrote on Nov 24, 2009 11:59 AM:

" Boscoe the unfortunate thing is that the PA's office all too often will plea bargin and the criminals will be right back on the street without doing any prison time and get probation....this is supposed to make us feel better that they are being "Supervised" by an officer....but more often than not, probationers and parolees are on supervision when they commit new crimes...I agree, I hope the PA gets a change of venue so that this criminal will maybe get real punishment, if that happens or not....we shall see once they are caught....sounds to me like the criminal will be back and maybe third time's a charm.... "

boscoe wrote on Nov 24, 2009 9:01 AM:
