Center for adults with Down Syndrome opens

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A new center for adults with Down syndrome in suburban St. Louis has been named for Cardinals star Albert Pujols.

The Albert Pujols Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome opened Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield.

The hospital says it will be the first of its kind in Missouri, offering specialists focusing on the unique needs of adults with Down syndrome.

Pujols, who has a daughter with Down syndrome, designated a $70,000 award from the Major League Baseball Trust to help open the nonprofit center. He also is founder of the Pujols Family Foundation, which provides assistance to people with Down syndrome and to children and orphans in the Dominican Republic.
