Gala focuses on tough issues

Association celebrates efforts to aid kids seeking homes

Two years after four people came together to form a small association to meet the most basic of needs for adoptive children and those in foster care in Cole County, their efforts were finally celebrated with the community.

Thursday evening's first Forget Me Not Gala brought together those with personal connections to children in "the system" and those willing to give them a chance.

The Cole County Chapter of the Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association (CCMFCAA) presented the gala to community members in order to raise awareness of some of the tough issues the children face.

The night opened in the atrium of the Capitol Plaza Hotel with a silent auction and vivid portraits of children awaiting adoption, courtesy of the Missouri Heart Gallery. The evening continued with a roster of guest speakers, 2009 Adoption Ambassadors Brandon and Bradley Huhmann and later a live auction.
