A fundraiser in memory of Elizabeth Olten attracted about 50 people Sunday afternoon and raised around $850.

The proceeds will go to the Elizabeth Olten Memorial Fund.

“We are just a bunch of bikers that want to do something, anything, to help the family in this tragic situation,” said Tammy Weider, a member of the Central Missouri Riders, which held its first-ever fundraiser.

Olten, 9, was found dead on Oct. 23, in woods near her home, two days after she was reported missing from her St. Martin's area home after she didn't make it home from a friend's house.

Weider said after hearing of the tragedy members simply wanted to help, and offering to host a fundraiser seemed to be a perfect response.

“We are parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles,” Weider said. “After hearing about the circumstances we really took it hard and wanted to help out in any way we could.”

Members of the group came from as far away as St. Louis, Blackwater, Columbia and Lake of the Ozarks to show their support.

“People need to know that humans still care,” said Helen Montgomery, who came along with her husband, Wayne, from Lake Ozark.

" Thank you for helping out. You did a wonderful thing that I'm sure is greatly appreciated. I was inspired when I read how far many of the riders traveled to attend this event. The kindness and altruism you showed gives hope and restores faith in humanity in a time when so many events have debased the same. God bless you! "
