Desmet finished Jays' football season

ST. LOUIS -- The Jefferson City Jays piled up 136 yards of total offense in the first quarter Friday night, but had just six points to show for it. They had just 79 yards in the final three quarters -- and zero points.

The second-ranked DeSmet Spartans shook off the hot start by the Jays to score the game's final 27 points and posted a 27-6 win in the Class 6 quarterfinals Friday night.

The fourth-ranked Jays end the year at 9-3.

DeSmet, which outgained Jefferson City 354-215, will play in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs. Blue Springs advanced with a 23-21 win over Rockhurst.
