Police searching for armed robber(s)

By Bob Watson
Published: Monday, November 9, 2009 9:31 AM CST
Jefferson City Police Monday morning asked for help in solving two armed robberies Sunday night.

Police said they were called to the Family Dollar store, 713 Madison St., at 7:37 p.m. Sunday.

A clerk said a man had entered the store through its front door, displayed a black semi-automatic pistol and demanded money.

When the clerk fled to the rear of the store, the would-be robber followed, then ran out the back of the store before police arrived.

Officers said the robbery attempt was unsuccessful.

But, nearly four hours later Â- at 11:27 p.m. Â- a clerk at the Best Western Hotel, 1937 Christy Dr., reported surrendering cash to an armed robber.

The physical descriptions from both hold-ups were the same: a black man, wearing a gray jacket and black pants.

Neither victim was able to provide any vehicle information.

No one was hurt in either robbery.

Police asked anyone with information about either robbery to call them at 634-6400, or to call CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS (659-8477).

" I wish I knew who the robber was so I could report him to the tipline and get the reward...that is, IF there is a reward. This fool here probably doesn't merit a reward, but I would still turn him in simply because he chose to terrorize people with a gun.

The man is worthless trash. "

" Well that would be consistent with the squad car activity that I personally witnessed Hasher. Were you there or what is your source for that info? (If you can share that is.) "

" The robbery at Best Western was on Saturday night around 11:30. "

" Well I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's awfully big coincidence that there was all this squad car activity in that same vicinity the night before the date they're reporting for the robbery. But coincidences do happen, so it's not impossible.

So if we give them the benefit of the doubt, does ANYBODY know what the police were after on Christy Lane, Ellis Blvd, and Rt B at about 11:30 Saturday night? It's not been reported anywhere that I've found. "

" same thing happend to a story about a bank robbery in belle/bland, actually happened on saturday, kwos and others said it happened on sunday. makes you wonder where they get their news tips. "

cuttingthroughthebull wrote on Nov 9, 2009 10:33 AM:

" Interesting that they had a robbery on SUNDAY night at the Best Western on Christy Lane becasue on SATURDAY night, there were numerous squad cars all over that same area, in around KFC, Premier Bank, Breaktime on Ellis, and even off of old Route B at the tire place. And this all was happening at about 11:30 Saturday night. They were clearly looking for someone.

Makes me wonder if News Tribune has their date wrong OR if there was yet another incident in that vicinity that hasn't been reported. "

" Concealed carry will solve a lot more of these. A bullet in the head is much better than the expense of a trial and incarceration. Plus, the streets are safer when devoid of scum. "
