Sedalia adopts rules for sex-oriented businesses

Published: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 8:09 AM CDT
SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) -- The Sedalia City Council has adopted an ordinance that regulates sexually oriented businesses.

The ordinance adopted Monday night restricts sexually oriented businesses to areas zoned heavy industrial. They also could not operate within 1,000 feet of schools, churches, day cares or residential property.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that the city has three potential areas in which a sexually oriented business could be established, but most of those areas are occupied.

The ordinance also would require employees of the businesses to be screened and provide fingerprints. The annual license fee for the special business permit would be $500.
