Nixon appoints 2 judges, parole board member

Gov. Jay Nixon has named a prison warden to the state parole board and appointed new judges to courts in northwest and southeast Missouri.

The appointments were announced Friday.

Ellis McSwain Jr. will serve on the Board of Probation and parole. McSwain is currently warden of the Algoa Correctional Center in Jefferson City. He has also worked at prisons in Boonville, Cameron, Fulton and Tipton and was a parole officer in Hannibal.

Nixon appointed Robert L. Smith to the circuit court for Butler and Ripley counties. Smith is a lawyer in Poplar Bluff and replaces Mark L. Richardson, who resigned as circuit judge.

In northwest Missouri, Nixon appointed DeKalb County prosecutor Bart Speak as an associate circuit judge.
