The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays got what they wanted out of Saturday's Capital City Cross Country Invitational.

"It was a good first meet," Jays coach Jim Marshall said.

So did the Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders.

"Everybody ran a faster time than they did in the time trial last week and that's what we want," Helias coach Mary Haskamp said. "We had some really good performances."

The Jays and Lady Jays swept large school team honors in the event at Cole County Park. On the boys side, Jefferson City had six of the top 10 individual finishers on their way to 21 team points.

On the girls side, the Lady Jays totaled 23 points with four runners in the top 10.

The Helias Crusaders finished second in the large school team standings with 65 points.

Helias did not field a full girls team.

In the small school division Saturday, the Linn Wildcats and Blair Oaks Lady Falcons finished second. Fatima was third.

On the girls side, the Lady Falcons totaled 53 points to finish behind Herculaneum's total of 18.

Linn was third with 76 points.
