Jefferson City teams primed for run at the top

The Jefferson City cross country teams enter the season in familiar territory -- deep and talented and ready to make a run at the top.

"Both the Jays and Lady Jays boast a strong returning core," Jefferson City coach Jim Marshall said. "If this core can improve on last year's times and we can find ample replacements for last year's seniors, they could both vie for state trophies (top-four finish) at the end of the year."

Don't be surprised if it happens.

The Jays and Lady Jays open the season at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Capital City Invitational at Cole County Park.
