Holts Summit fire district opens new station

Published: Sunday, August 30, 2009 11:12 AM CDT
The newly renovated Holts Summit Fire Protection District Station 1 opened for business Saturday on South Summit Drive.

Chief Scott Brooks said as many as six firefighters can now live at the station. They've also expanded an area for equipment and training.

"This will help us increase our response time," Brooks said. "Part of contractual agreement with our firefighters who will live at station is that they have to live here 20 daytime hours per month, minimum. We'll have people here at night, for sure."

Brooks also said the renovations allowed them to put in their own dispatching system, which can be used if the Callaway County dispatch system goes down."

The renovations were made possible back in April 2008 when fire protection district voters approved a bond issue. Of the $3 million approved, $1.6 million was used for this station, $400,000 was used for improvements at the district's station on Route AA, and another $1 million was used for new apparatus and equipment.
