Nixon names Halsey to LU Board of Curators

Gov. Jay Nixon this week named Hobart Randolph "Randy" Halsey to the Lincoln University Board of Curators.

Halsey, 76, succeeds Curator Gurnie Gunter of Kansas City, who died last February. Halsey's appointment is until Jan. 1, 2010 -- the end of Gunter's term.

The governor's office said no decision has been made, yet, on reappointing Halsey to a full term after Jan. 1.

Halsey is a retired LU assistant professor who also has served in numerous government managerial positions. He also is a former Jefferson City Fifth Ward Councilman. He believes he is the first black to serve on the LU Curators board from Cole County.
