Four area high school football teams are among those in the preseason state rankings by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

The Jefferson City Jays are ranked No. 3 in Class 6. The Jays, coming off a 9-3 season and an appearance in the state semifinals, are behind Blue Springs and Hazelwood Central.

The Jays will open the season against McCluer North at 7 p.m. Friday at Adkins Stadium.

The Helias Crusaders are No. 2 behind Webb City in the Class 4 rankings. Those two teams met for the Class 4 state title last season.

Webb City received six of the 12 available first-place votes, while Helias was tabbed No. 1 on four ballots. No. 3 Kearney and unranked Grain Valley received the other first-place votes.

Helias will face Waynesville to open the season at 7 p.m. Saturday at Adkins Stadium. Waynesville is among the others receiving votes in Class 5.

The Blair Oaks Falcons are tied for sixth in the Class 2 rankings with Carrollton.

Centralia tops the poll, receiving 10 first-place votes. Hogan Prep, ranked No. 2, and eighth-ranked and defending state champion Clark County received the other first-place nods. Warsaw, a member of the Tri-County Conference along with Blair Oaks, received 15 points in the voting and is just outside the top 10.

Blair Oaks will travel Friday to Moberly to open the season. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Tipton Cardinals are ranked No. 3 in Class 1. Defending champion Orrick swept the 12 first-place votes, while Hamilton-Penney is No. 2.

Tipton will host the Helias junior varsity at 7 p.m. Friday to open the season.

Raymore-Peculiar will start the season at No. 1 in Class 5, while Cassville tops the Class 3 rankings.
