Buck family thankful for support after fire

LADUE, Mo. (AP) -- One of the most prominent families in the St. Louis area is offering thanks after a major house fire.

The fire early Tuesday badly damaged the home of Carole Buck, the widow of legendary Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck. Carole Buck got out of the home in the suburb of Ladue unharmed.

Joe Buck, the son of Jack and Carole Buck and the lead sports broadcaster for the Fox network, credited the Ladue Fire Department for its quick response.

Joe Buck said he was saddened by the loss of so many items of sentimental value. However, he said his mother's safety was his main concern.

Among the items firefighters managed to save was the American flag that had been draped over Jack Buck's coffin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
