Redmond hits the ground running as LU men’s basketball coach

John Redmond takes the helm as head basketball coach at Lincoln University.

Just try to tell John Redmond that summertime is a basketball coach’s downtime.

That hasn’t been the case for the 56-year-old, who just completed his first month as the men’s head basketball coach at Lincoln University.

“It (the first month) has been long and hard,” Redmond said. “The biggest thing to do was to go back and re-evaluate the players based on the system that I’m going to bring in, and that’s based on up-tempo, pressing all over the floor, open-floor basketball.”

Redmond served as Lincoln’s assistant men’s coach the previous two seasons. The new position put Redmond back in a head coach’s role on the college level for the first time in three seasons.

“I love what I do, regardless of what level I’m at,” Redmond said. “I’m not one of those coaches who have to be a head coach to do this. I just like doing it.”
