High tech movies and live special events with 3-D technology are coming this week to Fulton.

Starting Friday the Fulton Cinema 8 will begin showing 3-D movies, says Tyler Rice, general manager.

Fulton is ahead of most Mid-Missouri movie theaters in installing 3-D technology. "I know they don't have 3-D movies in Jefferson City and I don't think Hollywood Theaters in Columbia has it either," Rice said.

The first three-dimensional movie to be presented at Fulton Cinema 8 is Disney's G-Force 3D.

Rice said additional movies to be played in a 3-D format in the next six months include Final Destination 4 on Aug. 28, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on Sept. 18, A Christmas Carol on Nov. 6, and James Cameron's much-anticipated sci-fi thriller AVATAR, which will debut in December.

Installation of a new Christie digital projector at Fulton Cinema 8 was continuing Wednesday afternoon with a REAL-D processor to convert the digital images to 3-D.

To activate the three dimensional effect, black horn-rimmed plastic glasses, sealed in a clear plastic container, will be issued to each 3-D customer at the theater. The customer can keep the glasses or recycle them at the theater.

An additional $2 will be added to the normal ticket price to pay the cost of 3-D licensing technology, boosting the cost of a child's normal $5.50 ticket to $7.50. Student and senior tickets are $8.50 and adult tickets are $10.

So far, B&B Theaters, the chain that owns the Fulton Cinema, also has installed 3-D digital movie equipment in Missouri at Liberty, Festus, Hannibal, Moberly, Monett, Chillicothe and Waynesville.
