St. Louis creates 'full-service' schools

Published: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 8:45 AM CDT
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis public school district has created 13 "full-service" schools that officials say will provide much more than an education.

District officials envision the schools as community hubs where families and individuals can find help with such issues as child development, jobs and housing.

The schools will open on the first day of classes Aug. 20.

A variety of service providers will either be housed in each school or be available through links to the school.
