Stores from 2 national chains joining Tuesday Morning at Wildwood Crossing

By News Tribune staff
Published: Saturday, July 18, 2009 6:04 AM CDT
By the end of this month, or the beginning of next month, Wildwood Crossing Shopping Center should be completely full of stores and some of that will come at the expense of Capital Mall.

According to the company's Web site, Tuesday Morning should be open within the next week or two.

The owners of Wildwood, Rubenstein Real Estate of Shawnee Mission, KS, have confirmed two other national retailers will be coming to round out the remaining space in the center.

" I don't shop at the mall a lot and when I do it is usually at Penney's or Dillards. My teenage daughter sometimes likes Hot Topic and Debb. I very rarely shop out of town as I think that it is important to keep my money in JC. If the mall were to close I would be forced to do some of my shopping out of town and that would be a shame. "

" This is kind of off topic but I was so excited and wanted to share... Every 3rd week my husband runs to Hy-Vee for me and gets diapers, Miller Lite (for him) and Coca Cola for me. This helps because it is heavy to carry. Anyway... this week on his lunch (works for the Guard) he ran over to the new Wal Mart supercenter and on those 3 items we saved $6.78 CHEAPER than what I normally pay. I was blown away. From now on, I will drive across town to the new WalMart for that savings!!!
Sorry, just wanted to share my excitement. "

" Okay from a very reliable source the second store is Maurices. The other of the two is Tuesday Morning. That is the two. Dollar Tree has just moved out there. Unfortunately, Bath and Body will be the last to move from the mall, even though they would have loved to be at the Wildwood strip mall. "

boscoe wrote on Jul 22, 2009 10:00 PM:

" Bus Driver, what is ironic is the fact that state workers are paid so low wages is exactly why your wages are also so low. The state is the largest employer in central missouri, and whatever wage the state pays is the level of competition that the other jobs pay. If state workers were to recieve higher salaries, yours would go up to stay competitive. Also, higher paid state workers would also pay more sales and property taxes, and spend more money in our area, thus increasing the level of commerce and the standard of living for all in central missouri. Your insistance to hold state worker wages down is also holding your own wages down and your standard.of.living. "

" I honestly don't understand how Jeff City can support so many payday loan places. I am ex-military, and Jeff City is starting to remind me of the businesses you would see immediately outside of the base gates. Payday loans, fast food, tattoo parlors, crappy bars. The only thing missing here in Jeff is the nudy mag shops and the strip clubs.

Who actually does business with a short term loan place?? I've never used one, but surely the interest is horrible? In the "El Jimador" plaza alone there is, what, 5? 6? of these loan places? Do each get enough business that the competition doesn't matter? "

" Bus Driver said "you bunch of snobbish state workers "

Kind of a hypocrite statement, don't you think? You just get done saying you are poor but not dirty, and then finish by somehow lumping all state workers into the "snobbish" category?

What do state workers even have to do with your rant? Not to mention we are the lowest (or almost the lowest) paid state workers in the US, so if anyone is poor/dirty, it's probably us state workers, lol. "

Bus Driver wrote on Jul 21, 2009 5:56 PM:

A few years ago, I thought of opening a kiosk to sell my famous peanut butter sandwich cookies and other baked goods but after talking to management and finding out about signing a contract about the rental price--I 'bout had a stroke!! So I put that idea in a bag and buryed it!! You know, I enjoy shopping down at the lake at various shops as well as the outlets down there--I sure didn't know that us poor and dirty were good enough to shop down there!! Guess we were flying under the radar! Or better yet, we washed ourselves up real good and borrowed a friend's expensive car to drive-down-there-to-avoid-detection-You-know--the-poor-and-dirty-'police'-are-EVERYWHERE-and-they-can-spot-one-of-US-a-mile-away! I found an on line menu and they serve my favorite salad. Also looks like they have LOTS of coffees. This place will be a gold mine, wish there were more bistros in JC like that. We usually just get things "to go" so crowding isn't an issue here. Thanks for the info. "

Sits in a little newish strip mall next to the Hotel DeVille and almost to where the highway intersects with MO Blvd. I haven't been there but I think they serve coffee. Also, I think there is a place uptown called the coffee zone but the parking would be bad. I love Quiktrip also, they were the convenience store of choice where I grew up. "

On my way home from JC after Capitol days, I drive thru the McDonalds for my caffeine fix for the drive home. Their coffee isn't the best (not just that McDonalds). It used to be better.
But it sure beats the rotgut leftover 15-hour-old coffee the gas stations sell.

If anybody can tell me a better place than McDonalds to get to-go coffee in the afternoon hours, I'd sure appreciate it! "

Its not fancy, but most of the products are better than the name brands. Its a German company, nice imports and it supports small businesses in the US. Its called smart shopping. A big price is not always the mark of quality. What would you like. Neiman Marcus? Saks? They have online stores. Or you could go to SL and throw cash away at Frontenac Plaza. Good superiority fix. By the way Bank of America'a ATM's are NICE--no deposit slip or envelopes needed. I NEVER thought I'd say this--Okay, JC get with the times and get my doggone bank here! WOW!! That wasn't as painful as I thought it would be! Missouri's was also $5.15 until the 2006 election, when it increased to $6.50, and it's $6.65 right now.

I think we may have some snobs here who will hopefully be a little more charitable when they grow up.
I do agree however that we have too many quick loan places, but I dare say Columbia has even more. It's a sign of the times, not the town. "

" Not sure how long you've been around, Countercouple, but we had strip-malls in Jefferson City long before we had the mall. And when the mall came in, it was nice, and clean and a good place to shop. And the existing strip malls (Jefferson Plaza and the area where Schnucks is now) went downhill fast. Retail areas just do that - they're popular for awhile and then something else catches the public's eye. Look at the downtown area - that was thriving 40-50 years ago - and only the "poor and dirty" shopped at the strip malls. "

There are only 2 closed entrance malls left in all of KC-the Oak Park and Independence Mall, with others doing what Ward Parkway has done, or going to the strip malls like Wildwood Crossing. Let's save and conserve what we have.... Capital Mall Management, let's try a new idea like Ward Parkway, you might also need to upgrade and lower the rent, to get in your new businesses.....Thanks for listening. "
