University publishes 'Faulkner Twain' essays

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- "Faulkner and Twain," a collection of scholarly essays about two of America's greatest writers, has been published for the Center for Faulkner Studies by Southeast Missouri State University Press.

The 15 essays in the volume were selected from papers presented at the 2006 Faulkner and Twain Conference sponsored by Southeast's Center for Faulkner Studies.

They were edited by Robert Hamblin, the center's director, and Melanie Speight, a former research assistant who helped organize the conference.

The essays discuss Faulkner's and Twain's treatment of such topics as humor, the frontier, the Mississippi River, race relations, politics, detective fiction and death.
