Two centuries ago, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark passed through Missouri as part of their 7,000-mile trek to study the Indian tribes, plants, animals and terrain of the recently acquired Louisiana Purchase.

For the next two months, a detailed description of that journey will be on display at the New Bloomfield Area Historical Society through the Lewis and Clark Across Missouri exhibit on loan from the Missouri State Archives.

"This is museum quality," said Gracia Backer, society president. "People will be surprised how entertaining and informative it is, and it's right here -- you don't have to go to a big museum in St. Louis or Kansas City."

Lewis and Clark Across Missouri will be at the New Bloomfield Area Historical Society Museum, located at 313 Oak St. in New Bloomfield next to the elementary school, until mid-August. The museum is open from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays or by appointment during the week.
