Learning more than a game

Basketball shorts, check. Playbook, check. Bible, check?

That is all kids attending Sports Crusaders camp will need this week. Collegiate students will be coming to various churches in Jefferson City to help young campers in grades 1-6 find Christ through sports.

Mary Miller, collegiate newcomer to Sports Crusaders, will guide the Memorial Baptist Church group of more than 50 children through basketball activities.

Miller, along with coaches Daniel Swarthout and Kassie Limke, received their training at Hannibal-LaGrange College last week where they learned how to blend the gospel with sports.

"The reason I wanted to join the camp is because I was a part of the camp when I was younger and I wanted the younger kids to enjoy the same experiences I did," Miller said.

Still heavily involved in her congregation in Fulton, she is ready for the "what if" situations.

In case she encounters children who have not had any experience with Christ, Miller said she will approach them in a friendly manner.
