Nixon promotes high-tech, science jobs

Published: Friday, February 27, 2009 9:10 AM CST
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon called for the creation of more high-tech, high-paying jobs in science-related industries.

Nixon spoke about his Transform Missouri Initiative during a tour Thursday of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.

He said Missouri is in a good position to compete for economic stimulus money for scientific research. Under the federal recovery act, Missouri institutions can compete for more than $2 billion in new funding from the National Institutes of Health.

On Monday, Nixon launched a Web site - http://transform.mo.gov - to solicit ideas from residents, local governments, businesses and non-profits.
