A 5-year-old Jefferson City girl remained in critical condition Saturday at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital, where she was flown Friday after a two-car accident at the intersection of U.S. 54 West and Heritage Highway.

The Highway Patrol said Margaret L. Romph, 5, was a passenger in a southbound 2003 Mazda driven by Erin Romph, 16, that was struck broadside as it attempted to cross U.S. 54 at 5:50 p.m. Friday.

Three others were hurt in that collision.

Rachel L. Burke, 19, Springfield, was listed in stable condition Saturday at Capital Region Medical Center. She was driving the westbound 1990 Acura that hit Romph's Mazda.

Erin Romph and another passenger in her vehicle - Kay Brejcha, 63, Jefferson City - were treated and released Friday from St. Mary's Health Center.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

" Old fuzzy i couldnt agree more... you have Hwy 50 set at 60-65 on most of it but on HWY 54 you have it set at 70 and it has more curves and more nonvisible entering traffic areas...makes no sense... "

" such a sad deal, margaret is such a good young lady, our prayers go out to her and the romph family
how many people have to get hurt, maimed,or killed on this hwy(54w) before the state does something to slow down the traffic through the area that this happened,,,this is not a limmited access hwy but they have the speed limmit set as if were,,,,,slow the people down or fix the crossings! "
