CIRCUIT COURT ACTIONS: Man gets probation for role in break-in at business

Kevin Nunnery, 23, California, pled guilty to a charge of second-degree burglary for his role in a May 25 break-in at Fechtel Beverage, 425 W. Elm St. Nunnery also was ordered to serve 60 days shock time in the Cole County Jail, with credit for time served.
The other defendants in this Joseph S. Wilson, 23, and Matthew Kirk, 26, both of Jefferson City, had earlier pled guilty to second-degree burglary charges. Court records show Wilson was sentenced to one year in the Cole County Jail, with credit for time served, while Kirk was sentenced to four years in prison.
A juvenile from Russellville involved in the case was turned over to juvenile authorities.
Joyce also placed a Holts Summit teen on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to breaking into vehicles and taking items from them this summer.
Jacob Abbott, 18, must also pay more than $5,000 in court-ordered restitution.
On Aug. 1, Abbott and two 16-year-olds from Jefferson City were taken into custody in the 900 block of Millbrook after police had received several calls of thefts of stereos, money and electronics from vehicles. Abbott was charged with firstdegree property damage and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in this case.
On Aug. 30, Abbott was taken into custody after a search of his residence found a Moped, wheels and tires along with a variety of electronic equipment that were believed to be stolen.
He was charged with two counts of felony theft.
Joyce also sentenced a Jefferson City man to three years in prison for leading police officers on a chase during a DWI checkpoint conducted Aug. 31.
According to police reports, John H. Martin, 22, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed while traveling east on U.S. 50 near Eastland Drive around 3 a.m. When he failed to stop, officers began a pursuit.
During the chase, Martin reversed his path in an attempt to flee and began traveling west.
Martin tried to change direction again, but struck a highway sign and stopped. Martin was charged with DWI aggravated offender, driving while revoked and resisting arrest.
In other recent court action, Joyce:
* Ordered a St. Louis man to be released from prison after he served a 120-day shock sentence. Willie Moses, 28, was placed on five years' supervised probation. He pled guilty to a September 2004 charge of selling cocaine and had his probation revoked in August.
* Placed a Jefferson City man on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to unlawful use of a weapon. Jerome Nickerson, 21, 211 Jackson St., was charged in December 2007.
* Placed a Jefferson City man on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to possession of cocaine. Phillip Connor, 20, 608 E. Miller St., was charged in November 2007.
* Placed a Fulton man on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to possession of Vicodin. Justin Roy-William Gilbreath, 20, was charged in March.
* Placed a Sedalia woman on five years' supervised probation after she pled guilty to DWI persistent offender. Debra Blankenship, 47, was charged in February. She must also wear an electronic bracelet for 60 days.
* Placed a Jefferson City resident on five years' supervised probation. Shawndell Miller, 32, 5314 Scruggs Station Road, recently pled guilty to a January 2007 charge of selling crack cocaine.
* Placed a St. Louis man on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to failure to register as a sex offender. Antonio Howard, 28, was charged in July 2007.
Cole County Judge Richard Callahan recently placed a Jefferson City man on three years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to felony theft. Michael Corcoran, 31, 2127 Tanner Bridge Road, was charged in October 2007. According to court records, he must also serve 60 days shock detention in the Cole County Jail.
Cole County Associate Circuit Judge Tom Sodergren recently placed a Jefferson City man on two years' unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to misdemeanor possession of an unloaded firearm while intoxicated.
James, Welch, 52, 214 Marshall St., was also ordered to serve two days shock time in the Cole County Jail.
According to police reports, around 11 p.m. April 24, the Jefferson City Police Department's 911 Center received the first of 11 calls from residents in the area of the 200 block of Marshall regarding shots being fired. The last call came around 1:45 a.m.
Officers remained in the area for several hours - searching in both patrol vehicles and while on foot - when Welch was located sitting on a second-story deck outside his residence.
Police searched Welch's residence and found a 9mm handgun with two boxes of ammunition. There were spent casings located beneath Welch's deck.
