Here's a summary of NHL news.

SCOREBOARD

Monday, Dec. 1

Anaheim at Detroit (7:30 p.m. EST). The Ducks travel to the Motor City to face the defending champion Red Wings, in a matchup of the past two Stanley Cup winners. Anaheim, which captured the Cup in 2007, is 6-2-1 on the road.

STARS

Saturday

-Sidney Crosby, Penguins, had his first career hat trick in Pittsburgh and paced a 4-1 victory over New Jersey.

-Steve Mason, Blue Jackets, stopped 26 shots to earn his second NHL shutout - and second in a week - and the rookie lifted Columbus to a 3-0 win against Washington.

-New York defenseman Freddy Meyer scored twice and added an assist in the Islanders' 4-2 home win against Ottawa.

-Rick Nash, Blue Jackets, scored twice as Columbus snapped a three-game home losing skid with a 3-0 victory over Washington.

-Mikko Koivu, Wild, had two goals and added an assist to lift Minnesota over Nashville 6-2.

-Wojtek Wolski, Avalanche, scored two goals in Colorado's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay.

-Joe Pavelski, Sharks, scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 8:37 remaining as San Jose rallied to beat Phoenix 3-2.

SIZZLING

Blake Wheeler and David Krejci both had a goal and an assist, and the Boston Bruins won their ninth straight home game with a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. The Bruins went 11-1-1 in November - including eight wins at home. They haven't lost in Boston since Oct. 23 and are on their longest home-winning streak in 25 years. ... The San Jose Sharks rallied from a two-goal deficit on Saturday night and beat Phoenix for their seventh straight win. The Sharks lead the NHL with a mark of 20-3-1

SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED

The Brian Burke era in Toronto officially began Saturday night, and the Maple Leafs responded with a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers just hours after the new team president and general manager was introduced. He got a six-year deal, worth a reported $3 million annually, to replace interim GM Cliff Fletcher, who took over after John Ferguson was fired in January. Burke spent the past three-plus seasons managing the Anaheim Ducks, leading them to a Stanley Cup title in 2007. He stepped down from the post Nov. 13 after declining to sign a contract extension.

STAYING

Josh Bailey, the No. 9 pick in this year's NHL draft, will remain with the New York Islanders for the entire season instead of returning to his junior team. A decision had to be made before the Islanders faced the Ottawa Senators at home on Saturday night.

Bailey, who missed the first 14 games of the season with an injury, made his debut on Nov. 11. The 19-year-old center had no goals and five assists in his first 10 games.

FALLEN LEAF

If Mats Sundin decides to resume his NHL career, he will likely do it with a team other than the Toronto Maple Leafs. New Leafs general manager Brian Burke said Saturday that he spoke with Sundin recently and came away thinking that the former Toronto captain wanted to join a Stanley Cup contender. “I don't think we fit the profile he is looking for,” Burke said after officially joining the Leafs organization. Sundin has spent the past few weeks working out in Los Angeles and has yet to commit to a return to the NHL. Several teams are believed to be interested in his services.

SIDELINED

Colorado Avalanche placed defenseman Adam Foote on the injured list Saturday due to injuries to his lower back and knee, and recalled defenseman Aaron MacKenzie from Lake Erie of the AHL.

Foote, 37, was injured in the second period of Colorado's game against Los Angeles on Nov. 22. He has since missed three games.

STATS

Alexander Frolov had a goal and an assist in his 400th NHL game, helping Los Angeles to a 5-2 victory over Chicago on Saturday night. ... Third-string goalie Cory Schneider made 28 saves during his NHL debut, but he and the Vancouver Canucks lost 3-1 to the Calgary Flames. ... The Detroit Red Wings fell 4-1 at Boston on Saturday night, their third loss in four games. The defending Stanley Cup champions are an NHL-best 10-2-2 on the road.

SPEAKING

“We can beat anybody in this league and we can play against anybody, obviously. We've got to keep going and we've got to push forward. We can't be satisfied with the results we have.” - Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara after the Bruins beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night 4-1 for their ninth straight home win.
