According to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Jack Len Hilt, 59, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey to 25 years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Hilt to forfeit to the government a camera, two VCRs, a five-inch color TV, a desktop computer and a laptop computer, all of which were used to commit the offense.
Hilt pleaded guilty on May 8 to producing child pornography. Hilt's family members in West Virginia contacted law enforcement officers in October 2006 when they found a computer bag with four DVDs and 22 VHS tapes containing child pornography, which Hilt had left behind during a visit. Some of the videos showed two minor girls, both younger than 16, when they were taped in June 2005, using a bathroom in Hilt's residence in Henley.
Hilt admitted that he hid a video camera behind a bathroom wall; the camera was wired to a TV and VCR. Hilt also admitted that he had secretly videotaped three additional minor females in 2002. None of the minor females were aware of the presence of the video camera or the fact that they were being videotaped while in Hilt's bathroom.
Investigators found numerous images of child pornography on Hilt's computers.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood brings federal, state and local resources together to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet.
