Monday, commissioners decided to increase the department's budget by $19,000 annually. The increase will take effect at the start of December.
“People are taxed and it's starting to affect morale,” said Health Director Jane Hubbs.
The positions targeted are those that require a nursing degree. They would include the director and assistant director of nursing, the school nurse and nurse services coordinator.
Hubbs said the increase should also help in the department's effort to fill nursing positions, some of which have been open since the spring of 2007.
