Here's a roundup of results from the National Hockey League.
Scott Hartnell had two goals and Jeff Carter, Mike Knuble, Simon Gagne and Joffrey Lupul also scored for the Flyers (1-3-3), who snapped the Devils' three-game winning streak.
The Flyers' win came just hours after they learned that star center Daniel Briere would be sidelined up to a month with a torn abdominal muscle that will require surgery.
Rangers 3, Blue Jackets 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Nikolai Zherdev had a successful return to Columbus with a goal and two assists, leading the Rangers to the win.
Brandon Dubinsky redirected a pass off his right skate for a controversial goal that gave the Rangers the lead to stay. Daniel Girardi also had a goal and an assist.
Rangers coach Tom Renney was taken to the dressing room after being hit on the head by a stick in the second period and did not return. He watched the second half of the game with team medical personnel and said he was OK to fly back to New York.
Jake Voracek had the only goal for Columbus.
Zherdev, the third-leading scorer in Blue Jackets franchise history, was traded after four up-and-down seasons along with Dan Fritsche for defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman on July 2.
Kings 4, Blues 0
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Kyle Quincey and Patrick O'Sullivan scored 5:28 apart in the first period, and Jason LaBarbera stopped 15 shots for Los Angeles.
The Kings, winners of three of their last four after opening the season 0-2, also got goals from Jarret Stoll and Dustin Brown. Brown also had an assist and LaBarbera earned his third career shutout.
The Blues lost goalie Manny Legace to a strained left hip flexor. Legace was injured when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who dropped the ceremonial first puck.
He stopped 10 shots before departing after the first period.
Red Wings 5, Thrashers 3
DETROIT (AP) - Marian Hossa had two goals and an assist and Henrik Zetterberg also scored twice for the Red Wings.
Dan Cleary also scored and Chris Osgood made 30 saves for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who won their third straight.
Jim Slater, Ron Hainsey and Brett Sterling scored for Atlanta and Kari Lehtonen stopped 41 shots.
Ducks 4, Senators 3
OTTAWA (AP) - Ryan Getzlaf scored Anaheim's third second-period goal in his return to the lineup, helping the Ducks get the victory.
Brian Sutherby, Todd Marchant and Sammy Pahlsson also scored for Anaheim, and Jonas Hiller stopped 27 shots in his second start of the season.
Getzlaf, who missed Tuesday's 3-2 shootout win in Toronto because of a gum infection, scored his first goal on a power play at 10:57 to make it 4-0.
Hiller carried a shutout into the third, when Daniel Alfredsson scored the first of three straight Senators goals. Alexandre Picard followed Alfredsson with another power-play goal and Chris Neil cut Anaheim's lead to one with 9:12 remaining in the game.
Alex Auld made 28 saves in his second start for Ottawa, which has lost three straight.
Panthers 4, Sharks 3
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Cory Stillman had two goals and an assist, and Tomas Vokoun made 47 saves for Florida.
Richard Zednik and Nathan Horton also scored for the Panthers, who have won consecutive games for the first time this season. The goal was Zednik's first of the season and first since he sustained a life-threatening neck injury in Buffalo last February.
Defenseman Keith Ballard had three assists for the Panthers.
Joe Thornton, Ryane Clowe and Patrick Marleau scored for San Jose, which missed a chance at the first 7-1 start in franchise history. Evgeni Nabokov made 30 saves.
