Several hospitalized after weekend accidents

Published: Sunday, October 19, 2008 9:38 AM CDT
A southwest Missouri man was listed in critical condition Saturday at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital, following a crash on Saturday.

And a Sunrise Beach woman's condition was not known Saturday after she was thrown from a motorcycle in a separate wreck.

* Melody J. Maxwell, 41, Sunrise Beach, was flown to UMC Hospital after she and Roger C. Maxwell, 52, Sunrise Beach, both were ejected from the southbound 2004 Yamaha motorcycle at 11:20 a.m. Saturday.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said both were wearing helmets.

Roger Maxwell was driving the motorcycle when it ran off the right side of Highway 7 in Pulaski County, three miles south of Richland, and overturned.

Only Melody Maxwell was listed as being injured, and she had not been listed, yet, in the UMC Hospital's information system Saturday afternoon.

* The patrol said Neal E. Smith, 25, Pleasant Hope, was flown to the UMC Hospital after a 1 a.m. one-car accident in Morgan County.

Investigators said he was not wearing a seat belt.

They couldn't tell if Kenneth E. Carpenter, 26, Versailles, who was driving the 1990 Chevrolet, was using a belt.

Carpenter was taken to Lake Ozark Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, and was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit Saturday.

The patrol said Carpenter was headed north on Mulberry Lane in Morgan County when the slid off the right side of the road and hit a tree, just north of Mulberry Road.

* Steven N. Henderson, 25, Iberia, was listed in fair condition Saturday at the UMC Hospital, after a one-car accident late Friday afternoon in Camden County.

The patrol reported Henderson was flown to Columbia after he lost control of his westbound 1993 Ford Escort about 4:45 p.m., on state Route A at Purple Martins Drive.

The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned several times.

Henderson was not wearing a seat belt.

* The patrol said Jenna K. Lawson, 19, Iberia, and Angel M. Lytton, 19, Lake Ozark, were hurt when their northbound car ran off the right side of Route Y and overturned.

Lawson, driver of the northbound 2000 Chevrolet Cobalt, was stabilized at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, then transferred to St. John's Hospital-Springfield, where she was treated and released.

Lytton was treated and released from Lake Regional.

The accident happened at 3:40 a.m., on Route Y a halfmile south of the Route W intersection in Rocky Mount.

Neither woman was wearing a seat belt.

* No condition information was available Saturday for Theresa E. Boyd, 56, Independence, who was taken to St. Mary's Health Center Friday night after she was hurt in a two-car accident.

Neither St. Mary's, Capital Region Medical Center nor the UMC Hospital had any information about Boyd - and, under privacy laws, could not say if she was a patient unless she gave her permission for that information to be released.

Lisa A. Colyer, 19, Tipton, was treated and released from Capital Region after she was hurt in that same accident.

The patrol said Boyd was stopped on U.S. 50 at the Route H intersection, waiting to turn left, toward Clarksburg, when Colyer's 1998 Chevrolet hit Boyd's 1993 Lincoln in the rear.

The accident occurred at 7:20 p.m.

Both women were wearing seat belts.
