Flood devastates small town

The Cuivre River poured over its banks at Silex when heavy rains came on Sunday. Virtually every home in the community of just over 200 residents was badly damaged, along with City Hall, churches and businesses.
Remnants of Hurricane Ike caused the weekend storms that led to flash flooding around the state. Rivers rose, too. Most spots along the Mississippi, Missouri and smaller rivers have already seen crests. Crests south of St. Louis on the Mississippi are happening through Saturday.
Nearly five dozen state roads remain closed, including Route 10 in Carroll County and several sections of Route 94 in central and eastern Missouri.
