Sgt. Maj. Steve and Lt. Col. Vicki Hiland, Russellville, retired after more than 55 years combined service in the Missouri Army National Guard.
Steve Hiland joined the Missouri National Guard in 1983 and has served as senior instructor for the Regional Training Site-Missouri for more than 10 years. He also was an inspector general. After receiving the rank of sergeant major in 2004 he served as the supply and logistics sergeant major. He deployed to Afghanistan as an embedded trainer with the Afghanistan National Army.
He earned the Combat Action Badge and Bronze Star during deployment.
Vicki Hiland joined the Missouri National Guard in 1978 and completed Officer Candidate School in 1983. She became commissioned in the Missouri National Guard in 1990 as an accounting officer.
She has served in recruiting and retention, family assistance, as personnel officer for the 135th Field Artillery Brigade, as commander of the 5th Ordnance Training Company, as personnel management officer with the 35th Area Support Group during their deployment to Iraq and as director of human relations for the Guard.
Her military awards include; Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal.
