“There are some mixed feelings about this being the last ride,” said Danny Thrash, a 25-year rider. “We look forward to it every year - you get to see a lot of good people while raising money for cystic fibrosis.”
Ride organizers announced that, due in part to heavy traffic along U.S. 54, this would be the last year for the fundraising ride.
About 100 riders gathered at Westgate Lanes for the ride, which ended at the Eugene Riding Arena at the junction of Missouri 17.
Since the start of the ride, which will have raised nearly $1 million after this year's event, great improvements have been made in research, medications and treatment for children with cystic fibrosis. When the ride began in 1983, the average life expectancy of a child with cystic fibrosis was only 10, now it is 37.
