Man sentenced for role in 2007 robbery at local convenience store

Published: Saturday, September 6, 2008 2:41 PM CDT
Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce recently sentenced a St. Louis man to three years in prison after he pled guilty to an amended charge for being involved in an armed robbery at a convenience store on Christmas Eve 2007.

Edward Nunn, 28, pled guilty to felony stealing and will have his sentence run concurrent to other sentences he's already serving, according to court records.

He had been charged with attempted first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

According to police reports, Nunn was a lookout when the Citgo Convenience Store, 105 W. Dunklin St., was held up at 9:44 p.m.

A store clerk reported Myron Cage, 23, Jefferson City, was wearing a ski mask when he entered the store and brandished a shotgun.

Cage reportedly pointed the weapon at one clerk before a second clerk attacked him, disarmed him and removed his mask.

Cage pled guilty to firstdegree robbery and armed criminal action charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Antwuan Grant, 25, Jefferson City, also was arrested for being a lookout during the robbery. He pled guilty in April to a charge of attempted firstdegree robbery and Cole County Judge Richard Callahan sentenced him to seven years in prison.

At the time of the sentencing, Callahan ordered a case review, to be completed by the probation and parole office. After getting that review, Callahan ordered Grant to be released and placed him on five years' supervised probation.

During other court action this week, Judge Joyce sentenced a California man to five years in prison after he pled guilty to three counts of second-degree burglary for incidents that occurred earlier this year.

William Oberle, 25, will have his sentence run concurrent with another sentence he's already serving.

According to Sheriff's Department reports, the incident that led to Oberle's arrest occurred at Bob's Guns, 112 Route D, around 4:20 a.m. June 2.

Oberle reportedly was one of several people who broke into the business by cutting a 10-foot hole in the back of the building.

When an alarm at the business sounded, the suspects fled.

Sheriff's deputies, assisted by officers from the Jefferson City Police Department, stopped Oberle's vehicle a short distance from the store, according to the report.

A laptop computer and an i-Pod were found in the vehicle. Those items apparently had been taken from the Westview Baptist Church, also on June 2.

Additionally, the vehicle deputies stopped matched the description of the vehicle seen leaving the Cole R-5 Schools in Eugene following a burglary there on Memorial Day. Pictures of the vehicle were captured by surveillance equipment at the school.

The Sheriff's Department also said a search of Oberle's residence turned up what authorities believe were items taken in several burglaries in Moniteau and Morgan counties.

During the week, Judge Joyce also:

* Sentenced a Jefferson City woman to nine years in prison after she pled guilty to selling Oxycotin and cocaine. Katherine Catlow, 36, 12 Jackson St., was charged in July 2007.

* Sentenced a Dixon man to three years in prison after he pled guilty to second-degree burglary. Elijah Lutz, 22, was charged in December 2007.

* Sentenced a Jefferson City man to three years in prison after he pled guilty to felony stealing. Anthony Cummings, 48, 4726 Shepherd Hills Road, was charged in February 2007.

* Placed a Linn Creek man on five years' supervised probation after he pled guilty to a February 2007 charge of failure to pay child support and a November 2007 charge of passing a bad check. Bryan Farris, 36, must also pay child support and restitution, according to court records.

Cole County Judge Jon Beetem recently sentenced a Jefferson City woman to two years in prison after she pled guilty to a May charge of felony stealing. Sarah Smith, 24, 713 Schumate Chapel Road, will have her sentence run concurrent to sentences she's already serving, according to court records.

Judge Beetem also sentenced a Jefferson City man to two years in prison after he pled guilty to a May charge of driving while revoked. Shane Otto, 34, 1225 W. Main St., will have his sentence run concurrent to sentences he's already serving.

" I'm just grateful for the ones that were sentenced to prison. As for concurrent sentencing, it depends upon what the PO puts in the pre-sentence investigation as a recommendation and criminal history. At least most of them got TIME. "

" Concurrent sentences=no consequences.
An armed robbery particpant gets probation? A career criminal knocks off a gun shop and a church and he gets concurrent time?
In what delusion does this make sense? If they'd stolen from the judge, you can bet they'd all get hard time, but since it was just from the lowly peaseants in the county, well, its easy to do nothing.
I'll guarentee, these slugs see probation or concurrent time as a freebee. Why not commit the crime? There's no reprecusions for it.
Its no wonder punks in Mid-Mo don't fear the judicial system. Its a joke to them. Its beginning to look that way to me too. "
