Russellville man sentenced in school disturbance

Ricky Campbell, 43, pled guilty to charges of peace disturbance, trespassing and resisting arrest.
Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce sentenced Campbell to 30 days in the Cole County Jail and to have that sentence run concurrent with a sentence he is currently serving on an unrelated charge in state prison.
All the charges Campbell was facing in this case were misdemeanors.
According to the sheriff's department probable cause statement, Campbell was in the school office with his nephew and was calling him a thief for taking paper and other items from the school counselor's office. When the counselor said the supplies were donated by a church for students to use, Campbell reportedly told the principal and the counselor they didn't understand stealing. He then asked them if his nephew brought a gun, would they understand that and added: “I bet you understand Kirkwood and black people.”
During this time, Campbell allegedly was standing in the doorway of the school office and not allowing people to leave and while making his statements, he grabbed either a stapler or scissors off a desk.
One worker fled into the schools' vault in fear of her safety.
Campbell eventually said he was going to take his nephew and they were leaving until the next school board meeting.
By that time, Cole County Sheriff's Department School Resource Officer Lt. Joe Essen had arrived on the scene and, together with the school counselor, told Campbell he was not going to take his nephew.
Campbell then allegedly approached Essen, making a grab for his weapon and Taser, but Essen pushed him back and told him it was time to leave or else he would be placed under arrest. Campbell then turned around and put his hands behind his back and Essen told him he was under arrest and escorted him into a hallway.
Campbell then pulled away from Essen and the two got into a scuffle with Campbell eventually breaking away and walking quickly down the hallway towards a door. Essen followed Campbell and ordered him to stop and, when he failed to stop, used his Taser to take him into custody.
The boy's mother later told authorities Campbell did not have permission to take her son out of school.
In other recent court action, Judge Joyce:
* Revoked the probation of a Jefferson City man and sentenced him to three years in prison. Antonio Douglas, 27, 805 Nicole, had pled guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine and DWI from October 2005 and DWI and driving while revoked from December 2007.

Mac - I believe it was in reference to the guy that shot up Kirkwood city hall. However, I do not know the race of folks involved in the Russellville incident so any potential relevance is lost on me. "
